No, a study permit is different than a study visa. A Student Visa or TRV is a document that allows you only to enter/re-enter Canada as long as it’s valid. A Study Permit, on the other hand, is a document that permits you to study and stay in Canada legally as a student as long as it’s valid.
No, study permit is not a visa, it doesn’t let you enter Canada. You may also need to get a visitor visa or an eTA (electronic travel authorization). If IRCC approves your study permit, then they’ll issue you one along with your study permit.
Typically, there are no interviews for study permits. An interview may be required if decided by the visa officer. Your visa interview is the most crucial part of the entire process as the visa officer judges your true intentions as to why you have taken a decision to study in Canada. Here are a few most commonly asked questions that can help you better prepare for your interview:
- Why you wish to study in Canada?
- Why you have selected this particular Canadian college or university?
- Why you have choose this particular course?
- How will you fund your education in Canada?
- What are your plans for future?
All the Canadian Universities and colleges accept International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as proof of language proficiency to get admission. Some Canadian institutions also accept PTE & TOEFL.
As per the current COVID-19 outbreak, colleges and universities are accepting Duolingo English proficiency test in order to issue Letter of Acceptance.
Yes, you may qualify to work while studying if you have a valid student visa and you are enrolled in a full-time study program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
You may work for maximum 20 hours a week during regular academic sessions and full time during your breaks. But, in order to work on-campus or off-campus as an international student, you must meet the required criteria as per the IRCC’s rules and regulations.
But, to qualify for PR, you must meet the study permit conditions throughout the stay and should never violate the terms of your study visa, because, this could put your PR visa application at risk.
As an international student, you may:
- Apply for Canada PR through Express Entry’s Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Apply for Canada PR through PNP (Provincial Nominee Program)
Hopefully, you have also got answers to a lot of questions that generally pops-up in your head. If yes, then do think about choosing Canada as your study destination for its supportive and friendly policies and flexible programs.
